WELCOME TO Mr. PERI'S CLASS!

             In this class, you will learn about living things from the cells that make up every individual organism to the interactions of those living organisms in a community.  Much of what we learn will have applications to you, your body, and how you interact with and depend on other living things on our planet.   Below you will find some general information & considerations for my class.  For more details go to the page specific to your course and phase.

 A.  FRESHMAN BIOLOGY MATERIALS

  1.   Biology Textbook:  Biology: Exploring Life by Campbell, Williamson, & Hayden

  2.   Laptop:  You must have a location for notes (electronic)

  3.   Colored pencils and metric rulers will be supplied in class as needed

  4.   Lab Databook - I will supply and you will personalize

 

B.  ADVANCED PLACEMENT BIOLOGY MATERIALS (see additional information on the AP Bio pages)

                    1.  AP Biology Textbook:  Biology: The Unity & Diversity of Life by Starr & Taggart 11th Edition

                    2.  AP Lab Manual

                    3.  The AP Study Guide text is OPTIONAL

                    4.  Lab Databook - I will supply your book, you must individualize it.

 

C.  FRESHMAN BIOLOGY GRADES:

  1.  Tests:  60% of quarter grade (Includes tests and quizzes).

  2.  Homework:  40% of quarter grade (Includes My Biology Account sheets, labs and worksheets).

 

D.  ADVANCED PLACEMENT BIOLOGY GRADES (see additional information on the AP Bio pages)

                    1.  Tests:  65% of quarter grade (Includes tests and quizzes).

                    2.  Homework:  35% of quarter grade (Includes My Biology Account sheets, labs and worksheets).

 

E.  GENERAL GROUND RULES for ALL Mr. PERI's CLASSES

  2.  Cooperation is stressed over competition.

  3.  Understanding and application is stressed over memorization.

  4.  Active thinking is better than passive.

  5.  Read ahead in the text following the year outline.

  6.  Use the chapter reviews in the text.

  7.  You will have an assigned seat and lab partner.

  8.  Save everything in two places.

  9.  Homework is essential to success.  It will be graded on a 5 point scale (5 is best).

10.  For unexcused homework late one day, you choose a 20% (one point out of 5 possible) deduction.

11.  For unexcused homework late more than one day, you choose a zero.

12.  Students are responsible for making up work due to absence as per the NDP Student Handbook. 

12.  Students are expected to abide by the NDP Honor Code at all times.

13.  Raise your hand, be nice to each other and stay focused.

14.  Note taking is essential.  Do NOT just write/type what is one the board....

15.  I love neatness, completeness and punctuality.

 

D.  SAFETY

  1.  Know where the fire extinguisher is and use it if needed.

  2.  Inform the teacher of any injury to yourself.  That includes ANY cuts, burns, chemical spills.

  3.  Put nothing into the electrical sockets that shouldn’t be there.

  4.  NEVER taste, smell, or directly touch any chemicals unless specifically instructed to do so.

  5.  Inform your teacher of any spills before you clean them.

  6.  Most labs will require us to wear goggles and aprons.

  7.  When in doubt, ASK
